Delete your Atmospheric account
Last updated: 8 September 2026
You can delete your Atmospheric account and the data associated with it at any time. There are two ways to do it.
From the app
- Open Atmospheric and go to Settings.
- Open your account settings.
- Choose Delete account and confirm.
Deletion is scheduled rather than immediate. This is deliberate: an accidental tap should not destroy your account. Until the scheduled time you can cancel the request from the same screen, and nothing is removed.
If you no longer have the app
If you have uninstalled Atmospheric or cannot sign in, write to support [at] getatmospheric.com from a mailbox you control and include the phone number of the account. We will verify that the request comes from the account holder before deleting anything — we will not delete an account on the word of an unverified request, because that would let anyone erase someone else's account.
Deleting data without deleting your account
You do not have to close your account to remove what you have sent. There are three ways to delete data while keeping the account:
- Delete individual messages. Open a chat, select the messages, and delete them. You can delete them only for yourself, or for everyone — the second option removes them from our servers as well as from the other person's device. Deleting for everyone is possible for up to 24 hours after a message was sent.
- Disappearing messages. In a chat's settings, choose how long your messages should live. After that time they are deleted for both sides, on our servers and on both devices, without any further action.
- Clear a conversation. In the chat menu, choose to clear the history. This removes the conversation from your device.
If you want data removed and none of these covers your case, write to support [at] getatmospheric.com from a mailbox you control, describing what should be removed. As with account deletion, we verify that the request comes from the account holder first.
What is deleted
| Data | What happens |
|---|---|
| Account record — phone number, profile, username, photo | Deleted. |
| Your messages | Deleted from our servers. |
| Your encryption keys | Deleted. Anything still encrypted for you becomes permanently unreadable. |
| Group membership | You are removed from every group. If you were the only administrator of a group, administration passes to another member so the group is not left ownerless. A group left with no members is deleted entirely. |
What is not deleted, and why
- Messages you sent to other people remain on their devices. They are that person's copy of the conversation, and we cannot reach into someone else's device to remove it — the same way a sent letter is not recalled by closing your postbox.
- Messages other people sent in groups you were in stay with the group. They were never yours to delete.
